Dispersion is an abstract portrayal of our current human condition. Through dance, physical theatre and circus we express notions of connectivity, alienation, barriers, empathy, claustrophobia, collectivism and control.
From the initial rupture as a species we have evolved a diverse range of cultures that function through customs, languages and behaviours. Sometimes we are at odds and other times supported by this world and the people around us. We try to envision the borders around us as immutable, a construct that has existed forever but the boundaries of countries have constantly shifted and with them our sense of selves is forced to adapt. In the modern globalised world we often find our own personal cultural identity obscure, the constant impact of and communication with others challenges and inspires us to interrogate our own nature.
This work delves into our treatment of the other and so principally we worked in large ensemble acts. The creation of an aerial bars act, a unique choreographic exploration of Russian bars, the double tightwire and the group rope performance all play with the ideas of human relationship dynamics, shifting power and our sense of ownership of spaces around us.
Our Dispersion across space and time, our sense of displacement and separation from the other has led to conflict and strife but also to love and acceptance. By acknowledging the boundaries we create for ourselves and others, both real and imagined we can start the process to find a sense of unity.
